Founded in 2001 by Pitt alongside Jennifer Aniston, Brad Grey, and Kristin Hahn, Plan B has a reputation for backing award-winning films like The Departed, 12 Years a Slave, and Moonlight.
Director Philip Barantini revealed how deeply involved Pitt was during the production. “Brad was on the phone with us, and he was so enthusiastic. He really understood the vision and wanted to make sure we got it right,” Barantini told The Standard.
The Inspiration Behind Adolescence
Barantini shared that the idea for the hard-hitting drama stemmed from repeated real-life incidents of young boys violently attacking girls. “It shocked me,” he said in an interview with Netflix Tudum. “I wanted to shine a light on it and ask, ‘Why is this happening today? How have we come to this?’”
The production was a collaborative effort between Plan B Entertainment, British production houses Warp Films, and Matriarch Productions, highlighting the global effort behind the series’ powerful message.
Emotional Final Scene
Adolescence concludes with a deeply moving final scene set in Jamie’s bedroom, the place where his tragic transformation began. Co-creator and actor Stephen Graham, who played Jamie’s father, revealed that they always intended to end the story where it started.
To heighten the raw emotion of the final take, the art department secretly placed family photos of Stephen Graham, his wife Hannah Walters, and their children inside Jamie’s wardrobe — along with a heartfelt note reading, “We love you. We’re so proud of you.”
Barantini described how the surprise gesture “broke him open”, adding an unexpected depth to the performance that ultimately made it into the show.
Will There Be a Season 2?
Although fans are eager for more, a second season seems unlikely. The series ends with a powerful full-circle conclusion that leaves viewers reflecting deeply on its themes.
